Unnao: 40 HIV positive cases reported after 'quack' uses same syringe for everyone at health camp

In a case of medical negligence reported from Unnao atleast 40 HIV positive cases have been detected. These cases were discovered in a report on a health camp which was organised in the area in November 2017.

Media reports suggest that people visited a quack during the health camp who used a single syringe on everyone.

Bangarmau’s councillor Sunil while speaking to ANI said that there’s a possibility that there are at least 500 such cases in the area.

“Forty positive cases have been found. If proper tests are done, at least 500 cases would come up. It is being told that the people here used to go to a quack for treatment of diseases. He used a single syringe on all of them.” Sunil said.

The authorities have set up medical camps in areas that have reported HIV positive cases.

“We had set up a health camp where these cases were found to be confirmed. We have received orders and are deciding our further course of action,” Pramod Kumar, medical superintendent told ANI.

While the authorities are trying to map the situation, they are not yet sure about the magnitude of the situation.

“Action will be taken against culprits and those who practice without a licence. Since it’s a transit point, HIV carriers are likely to come there. So we’re mapping truck drivers who come there & offer treatment to them,” Sidharth Nath Singh, UP’s health minister said.
