Mithali Raj Has More T20 Runs Than Virat Kohli But…

Not Virat Kohli – but the highest run-scorer for India in T20Is currently happens to be Mithali Raj.

Yes, the Indian women’s cricket team veteran is ahead of Virat Kohli by 181 runs in the list of top run scorers in the T20 International format.

Deservedly so, there was much chatter on Twitter to celebrate a woman cricketer on top.

This indeed is a great dawn for women cricketers in the country and all over the world.

And while nobody is taking away from Raj’s achievement, a closer analysis of the facts does reveal that Raj

She has played 23 more T20 International games than Kohli

and had debuted earlier in the game format too.

The Debut

Mithali Raj debuted in the T20I format on 5 August 2006.

She played against against England in Derby. While Virat Kohli debuted on 12 June 2010 at Harare.

He played against Zimbabwe.

Number of Matches Played

Mithali Raj has played at least twenty more games than Kohli in the T20I format.

While Kohli has played 62 T20I games so far, Raj has played 85 T20I International games.

Average

While Mithali Raj has an average of 37.42 in the T20I format, Kohli‘s batting average is currently 48.88.

But at best, this only means that Raj has had more matches to play in the game format.

And this DOES NOT take away from the fact that Raj is STILL one of the best in the T20 International game.

In fact, it’s not just Raj, even Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur is Number 4 in the list of India’s top T20I run scorers.

C’mon desi women cricketers, chak de, India!
