Kandla port: Oil tanker catches fire, Coast Guard rescues 26 crew members, 2 injuried

Major fire broke out on the MT Genessa (Oil Tanker), which was anchored about 15 nautical miles off Deendayal Port in Kandla, in Kutch District of Gujarat at around 6 pm on Wednesday.

The Tanker, 183 metres in length with a draft of 10 metres, is known to be carrying around 30,000 tonnes of high-speed diesel.

The Indian Coast Guard immediately swung into action on receipt of information and evacuated 26 crew members safely. Two members suffered burn injuries and are being treated.

The Indian Coast Guard is fighting the fire using tugs and rigs available from nearby resource agencies. ICG Interceptor boat C-403 is at the scene, coordinating rescue and fire-fighting effort.

ICG Pollution Control team and 01 ICG Dornier also pressed into action.
