Jharkhand parties back NRC-like exercise

RANCHI/JAMSHEDPUR: BJP leader and convener of Jharkhand election management committee Manoj Kumar Singh wrote to chief minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das on Sunday, urging him to work out modalities for the identification and deportation of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas living in the state.

Kumar, while supporting the controversial final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, claimed that there has been noticeable increase in the population of Muslims in the state since 1971 due to influx of Bangladeshi migrants

Other political parties in the state are also on the same page on this particular issue. Congress legislative party leader and former speaker Alam Gir Alam said his district Pakur is directly affected migrants. He said Congress has always been demanding for an NRC-like exercise in the state.
