At a time when Bollywood was recuperating from the news of actor Irrfan undergoing treatment for neuroendocrine tumour in England, 90s actress Sonali Bendre broke the shocking news of being diagnosed with cancer.

The Hum Saath Saath Hain actress, who has been busy with work commitments on small tube, made the revelation on Wednesday (July 4) through a statement wherein she said that she is currently undergoing treatment in New York.

This piece of news has sent shock waves in Bollywood. If many of her B-Town friends took to Twitter to wish her speedy recovery, her Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara co-actor Akshay Kumar paid her a visit.

Bollywood’s Khiladi Kumar is currently vacationing in the US with his family, and upon reading about Sonali’s health status, he visited her in the hospital.

“I know that Sonali is a fighter. May God help bring her back in the best of health,” Akshay told a leading daily after his visit to Sonali.

On Wednesday, Sonali took to Twitter to share her official statement, wherein she said that she is determined to “fight every step of the way.”

“Sometimes, when you least expect it, life throws you a curveball. I have recently been diagnosed with a high grade cancer that has metastised, which we frankly did not see coming. A niggling pain led to some tests, which led to this unexpected diagnosis. My family and close friends have rallied around me, providing the best support system that anyone can ask for. I am very blessed and thankful for each of them.

There is no better way to tackle this, than to take swift and immediate action. And so, as advised by my doctors, I am currently undergoing a course of treatment in New York. We remain optimistic and I am determined to fight every step of the way. What has helped has been the immense outpouring of love and support I’ve received over the past few days, for which I am very grateful. I’m taking this battle head on, knowing I have the strength of my family and friends behind me.”

Akshay and Sonali worked together in a handful of films like Sapoot, Tarazu, Keemat and Angaaray.
